After Shooting Itself in the Foot for Fifty Years, the Democratic Party Has One Bullet Left
In a recent headline, the NYTimes announced to its readership that “Moderate Democrats Prepare for ‘War’ Against an Ascendant Left.”
Well, god love ‘em, after decades of decendence, anything ‘ascendant’ must be avoided. Otherwise, what would they do with Chuck Schumer?
The so-called moderate wing of the party, already trying to flap the broken wings of financial under-water-manship, is $3.4 million in debt…under the financial covers, sobbing under Ken Martin’s pillow, without a realistic way to peek out at America, much less offer any way to make a showing at November’s mid-term elections.
Dems thought just ‘not being Republican’ would be enough.
Just ‘not being the other team’ has never been enough in sports, and politics is the roughest sport of them all.
Meanwhile the Republican National Committee floats in a $125 million surplus.
The far more serious immediate problem is PAC funding. The Supreme Court (and other American institutional oddities) has made free and fair elections a money-game. And it is expected that the 2006 mid-terms will ring up an astounding $11.6 billion, making it the most expensive political advertising cycle ever.
Astounding? Really? Ever?
Yep, and even more remarkably, that would exceed the $11.2 billion spent on advertising during the entire 2024 presidential cycle.
In the economic arms race, to say that Dems are on the decline, would be such an understatement, it’s a joke…a bad joke, while facing a Republican Party headed by a convicted criminal, but owned and financed by Bezos and Musk ad nauseum.
With a mid-term shootout on the street, and only one bullet left in its political gun, the DMC aims to fire it at the only hope they have left, the emerging Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
Good god, why not just do the honorable thing and commit suicide.
Apparently, they were looking the other way, when Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat, a Socialist, and a Muslim to boot, ran away with a victory that made him Mayor of New York City.
Just a few days ago, Abdul El-Sayed, another socialist-leaning Muslim, won a divisive Democratic Senate primary in the crucial swing state of Michigan, with an unabashedly progressive message.
Sixty million dollars was spent to defeat him—thirty times the DNC debt—and they still turn their backs on Democratic Socialists.
Rather than welcoming both new blood and enthusiastic social Democrats to their sagging bosoms, the DNC is planning to shoot them out of the saddle.
With a single bullet, no less.
Just as the Cavalry shows up in the final scene of this political spaghetti western, the Dems slammed shut the doors of the stockade.
A major party with no more sense than that, deserves to dry up and blow away, and stop torturing the few supporters it has left. Two quotations from 1930’s humorist, Will Rogers come to mind:
“I’m not a member of any organized political party…I’m a Democrat.”
and
“There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.”
The Democratic National Committee is standing at that fence, with its fly open.
