Gm’s Last Guzzle of Gas
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra recently announced that General Motors plans to completely phase out vehicles using internal combustion engines by 2035. The automaker will go completely carbon neutral at all facilities worldwide by 2035.
Say What?
“General Motors is joining governments and companies around the globe working to establish a safer, greener and better world,” Barra said in a statement. “We encourage others to follow suit and make a significant impact on our industry and on the economy as a whole.”
Here’s GM’s plans to encourage others
V-SERIES CADILLAC BLACKWING UNLEASHED
The 472-hp 2022 CT4-V Blackwing and 668-hp CT5-V Blackwing are coming to lead the V-Series family. The first V-Series Blackwing vehicles may be reserved, but the thrills are just getting started. Be among the first to receive the latest about CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing, and discover how they’re coming to breathe new life into the art of driving.
Unleashed is certainly a friendly reminder to competitors that Mary Bara is committed to establishing a safer, greener and better world. What could be safer than 668 horsepower in a 65 miles per hour world? And as for green, Mary isn’t telling anyone what the mileage and emissions amount to, but safer? She’s got that covered, claiming 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Toss the keys to your 17-year-old and sleep tight. I can imagine Mary, in private conversation, saying "You don't know how hard I fought. This was a decision by the last of the 'old boy's club' that nearly destroyed GM. Twice.
Base price, about ninety-grand
I guess that includes cup-holders. Actually, my only question is why? Why kneel down to the gods of a safer, greener and better world and then lay this enormous hunk of yesterday’s clunky, whiz-bang technology on the buying public as a commitment to those goals? It’s not only the wrong message, Mary, the Blackwing is set up to get its ass handed to it by Tesla. 3.7 seconds to sixty? Tesla’s Model 3 has already embarrassed the best, fastest and most expensive in the world with 2.3 seconds to sixty. Base price? Around thirty-five grand. Do you really want that publicity?
Anyway, just thought I’d run this past you
Oh—and best of luck on your commitment to an all-electric GM by 2035.
