On the Eve of America’s 249th Birthday, the Senate Passed Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act by a Single Vote; That of VP J.D. Vance.
To say it was thus adVanced is too chilling a pun.
Essentially written by the Heritage Foundation, the bill includes:
Tax & Revenue Measures
· Permanent extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act individual rate cuts, estimated to cost $4 trillion over 10 years,
· Deductible interest on U.S.-assembled auto loans (up to $10 k), essentially ‘The Elon Exemption,’
· Estate tax exemption increase to $15 million, favoring high-net-worth heirs
Welfare & Health Care Reforms
· Medicaid cuts totaling $1.2 trillion over a decade, removing 18 million Americans from affordable health insurance,
· Medicaid Work requirements for those adults remaining 19–64 (80 hrs/month), income & eligibility checks twice yearly,
· Restrictions on Planned Parenthood coverage and gender-transition services
Border & Immigration Policy
· Border‑wall funding ($46.5 B), ICE expansion & detention capacity for 100,000 beds,
· Funding for deporting up to 1 million people/year, hiring thousands of Border Patrol/ICE agents
Energy & Environment
· Rollbacks of clean‑energy incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act,
· Opening hundreds of millions of acres of public lands to mining, drilling, logging, and reduced royalty rates,
Defense & Security
· Defense spending increase by$150 B (including drones, naval expansion, missile defense “Golden Dome”),
· Additional funding for border technology, CBP, and law enforcement hiring
So far, sounds Big, for sure. As for Beautiful, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But the beholders are super rich, and the beheld are what remains of an ever-shrinking minority of American greatness.
Please be aware that the above are but a selected sprinkle of the downpour within the 1,000 page document.
Those thousand pages are the hope-chest of The Heritage Foundation, an organization dedicated to (and foundation of) the MAGA movement.
(Google) The Heritage Foundation faces criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, with conservatives criticizing its current direction and some liberals criticizing its policy positions. Critics on the right have accused the foundation of becoming too closely aligned with Donald Trump and his allies, while others on the left criticize its conservative policy recommendations, particularly those outlined in Project 2025.
It is claimed that more than 100 nonprofits (led by the Heritage Foundation), have signed on as advisors to Project 2025’s 900-page “Mandate for Leadership” document — a plan to rapidly “reform,” or radically alter, the U.S. government by shuttering bureaus and offices, overturning regulations, and replacing thousands of public sector employees with hand-picked political allies.
Paul Dans, director of Project 2025 at the Heritage Foundation, said
“Project 2025 is not a white paper. We are not tinkering at the edges. We are writing a battle plan, and we are marshaling our forces. We compiled the plan as a road map for the first 180 days of the next GOP administration (which happened to be Trump). Never before has the whole conservative movement banded together to systematically prepare to take power day one and deconstruct the administrative state.”
So far, 159 days into the Orange Man’s administration (and counting)
· The Supreme Court has been turned into a feckless joke,
· The House and Senate are both under his Orange thumb,
· Hooded ICE agents, without identifications, are kidnapping protesters, immigrants, and United States citizens from the streets, and sending them, shackled, to foreign prisons,
· Wars are declared, support is given or denied on a whim to former allies, and international criminals are invited to the Oval Office for ass-kissing sessions (there is no other word for them),
· The FBI and Department of Justice are headed by Trump sycophants with no prior experience, approved by a terrified Congress,
· Congressionally approved bureaus have been slashed of employees and defunded,
· Military contracts abandoned in mid-completion,
· And tariffs applied like a mafia don, without the required congressional approval.
The One Big Beautiful Act is an outrageous, 1,000-page reconciliation bill that combines sweeping tax cuts (favoring wealthy and middle-income earners) with drastic entitlement reductions for the rest of us, with both border/defense spending, and debt ceiling expansion that will sharply widen the federal deficit and reduce social safety nets. Most of those cuts punish the very MAGA enthusiasts the Orange Man promised to set free.
Free from what, remains to be seen, but Heritage Foundation is not MAGA, not by a long shot. The swindler is finally swindling his own.
Happy Fourth of July to all my American counterparts, right, left and center.
