Americans Feel Military Is Best at Ending the War
By STEVEN LEE MYERS and MEGAN THEE
Americans trust military commanders far more than the Bush administration or Congress to bring the war in Iraq to a successful end, and while most favor a withdrawal of American troops beginning next year, they suggested they were open to doing so at a measured pace, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll.

That's the truly wonderful thing about American media--dreaming the impossible dream, going where the informed dare not go.
Note to the New York Times and CBS poll-taking departments;
It is not possible for military commanders to bring a war to an end, successful or otherwise. It is only possible for politicians, bless their little hearts. The Constitution (if the NYTimes and CBS were to check) gives both the declaration of war and ending hostilities specifically to Congress. Fighting wars is the duty of the military. For that purpose, we built them an entire Pentagon and staffed it with a fair share of geniuses and idiots, so they would not be tempted to do otherwise than fight.
So, sorry 'bout that, guys. Admittedly, Congress hasn't done a very good job in the declaring department for these past six decades, so it's an understandable lapse. It would be nice to take another slam at the Bush administration, just as Petraeus and Crocker are up on the Hill, but get your facts straight before you hire the pollsters.
