. . . Four years after then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's dismissive comments about European opposition to the war in Iraq, "Old Europe" is back -- and the White House is trumpeting its strengthened transatlantic ties with two highly choreographed official visits this week.

It doesn't matter what Merkel or Sarkozy say in the final gasps of the Bush administration--I live in Europe and Europe is sick to death of America's heavy handed diplomacy (if it can even be called that).
Have a great time at the ranch, Angela. Suck up to GB and Laura, but Germany isn't having any.
Enjoy the White House fete, Nicholas--then go back and explain to your millions of Muslims how entertained you were by all the warm fuzziness.
Washington Post--support the whole fantasy with a headline that actually sounds like this administration has something to 'hail' in Europe and don't worry about the minor detail that it's not true.
